THE FIT PRINCE REIGNS SUPREME!

If you're seeking a reprieve from the usual saccharine holiday fare, THE FIT PRINCE from Awkward Productions at the King's Head Theatre is your perfect antidote. It's a dazzling triumph of camp, chaos, and pure, unadulterated queer joy!

From the moment you enter the auditorium, the energy is infectious. Linus Karp and Joseph Martin deliver performances that are less "acting" and more "vibrating with comedic brilliance". The absurdity of the fictional Swedonia, where royalty hinges on a marriage clause, sets the stage for a riotous takedown of every Hallmark movie trope you love to hate... or hate to love!

From the very beginning, the script is nimble and is packed with gags, lots of innuendo, and more glitter than a disco ball convention! The writing is incredibly clever, crafting a chaotic world where royal duty clashes hilariously with modern rom-com tropes. The dialogue fizzes with energy, ensuring there's something for everyone in the audience to cackle at - from the subtle nods to pop culture - the reference to what Michelle Yeoh has been saying about her Wicked character being a particular highlight - to outright, laugh-out-loud moments.

The humour is relentless, but the show's real triumph is in what I can only describe as the ultimate audience participation. This is interactive theatre at its most joyful, immersive best, thrusting you right into the heart of the action. Audience members are asked before the show starts if they would like to take part, and when prompted to enter the stage are given scripts, promps, props and costumes!

The audience participation is expertly woven into the narrative without ever feeling forced, turning passive viewing into a communal celebration. With the addition of digital cameos from stars such as Sebastian Croft and Tove Lo adding a layer of meta-comedy, this piece of theatre is pure genius.

Spectators becoming participants and being heartwarmingly sent-up is fantastically brilliant. Something that added even more hilarity to the proceedings was having Sebastian Croft in the audience. He was given the role of DoppelgƤnger, and ended up trying to marry himself! Utter comedy gold.

The entire production is fantastically flawless. The pop songs are catchy, the puppetry is a delight, and the sheer pace of the jokes ensures you will need to find a seamstress to sew up your splitting sides!

There was nothing I didn't love about this show. It doesn't take itself too seriously and the way the technical error meaning the performance had to be restarted was handled somehow added even more to the evening.

This is unashamedly fun, fiercely funny, and just an utterly unforgettable experience. Whether you like rom-coms or not, THE FIT PRINCE is the must-see theatrical event of the season.

This is the first production I have personally seen from Awkward Productions but it certainly won't be the last that's for sure. It's a high-octane homage to community and acceptance, and is just sheer fabulous fun.

THE FIT PRINCE runs at Islington's King's Head Theatre until Saturday 3rd January. Click here to check availability and to book tickets. Believe me, you don't want to miss this unmissable piece of queer theatre.

All views are my own and I pride myself on being honest, fair and free from influence. Theatre is subjective and it is important to remember that all views expressed are just those of one person.

My ticket for this performance of The Fit Prince (who gets switched on the square in the frosty castle the night before (insert public holiday here)) was gifted by GingerBread Agency who invited me to watch the show in exchange for my honest review. The fact that my ticket was gifted played no part in the content of my review or the star rating given.
