A ROCK 'N' ROLL TRIP OF A LIFETIME
What an absolute blast! The UK tour of SUNNY AFTERNOON rolled into the New Wimbledon Theatre last night and I can tell you right now, it's a massive five stars from me!
This show isn't just about the music of The Kinks. It's a high-octane homage to the era that created them, and is full of pure, unadulterated rock 'n' roll energy. Frpm the first guitar chord to the final bow, the audience - especially me - were swept willingly away.
The cast, oh my goodness, the cast! They were absolutely phenomenal. Every single person on that stage gave it their all and more, Such flawless performances from them all, but I was particularly impressed with the brothers at the heart of the story. Danny Horn as Ray Davies was an absolute revelation. He perfectly captures his blend of vulnerability and artistic stubbornness, and his voice is simply sublime.
And the chemistry with Oliver Hoare as Davd Davies is electric. Hoare is pure, glorious chaos, all swagger and attitude, and he absolutely nails it. Their sibling rivalry and bond are at the core of the story, and these two deliver it with a punchy, authentic bravado that makes you feel you are right there with them.
All the music is played live on stage by the company, and it really is a masterclass of musicianship. There's no denying that they rocked the house. The concert atmosphere during the encore was magnetic.
The lighting, set and costume designs all help to perfectly replicate the era, creating wonderful nostalgia.
This show is a real party, a proper night out at the theatre. The finale had the entire auditorium on their feet, dancing and singing along. SUNNY AFTERNOON will have you laughing and singing, and maybe even shedding a tear. It's no wonder people keep going back for more from this outrageously talented company.
This is theatre that grabs you by the collar and holds you captive until the very end. The show is playing in Wimbledon until Saturday 29th November. Click here now to book tickets. Go see it!

All views are my own and I pride myself on being honest, fair and free from influence. Theatre is subjective and it is important to remember that all views expressed are just those of one person.
My ticket for this performance of Sunny Afternoon was gifted by New Wimbledon Theatre who invited me to watch the show in exchange for my honest review. The fact that my ticket was gifted played no part in the content of my review or the star rating given.
