GLORIOUSLY UNHINGED BROADCASTING

On Sunday evening I headed across London to The Divine for a Drag Show with a difference!

AS SEEN ON TVĀ is the brand-new, delightfully chaotic live variety cabaret and drag talk-show created, produced, and hosted by London's own Grace Ann Decorum. Dressed up as a camp, live television-inspired spectacle, the night celebrates iconic British television personalities and format styles, blending a traditional chat-show vibe with high-energy drag, live music, comedy, and a healthy dose of pure audience chaos.

I was incredibly excited for the evening, not only because I've heard great things about the fabulous Grace Ann Decorum's hosting chops, but because I am a huge, unapologetic fan of Sunday's special guest Lorraine Bowen. I simply couldn't resist the opportunity of seeing her live in such an intimate, queer space.

The heart of the night was the brilliant Q&A section with Lorraine. It felt like a proper, old-school chat show but with way more glitter. We learned so much about her fascinating backstory, from her early days performing with Billy Bragg to her legendary journey on Britain's Got Talent - including what it really felt like when she received that historic Golden Buzzer, and the fact that she didn't really understand what that meant!

The variety aspect of the show was top-tier, featuring stellar guest performances from some of the scene's best talent. The hilarious Drag Idol winner Shar Cooterie brought her signature screen-star energy to the stage, and delivered a brilliant mid-song rap, while East London's favourite draglesque star Nat Funni absolutely captivated the room with her brilliant cabaret style - handing out real ice creams along the way!

The absolute highlight of the evening was, of course, Lorraine singing her iconic Crumble Song. The atmosphere inside The Divine was electric; the entire audience was singing along in a state of shared ecstasy, waving their hands and shouting the lyrics.

To top off the absolute madness, we had the Crumble Raffle. Yes, you read that right. Real crumbles - lovingly baked by our hostess's boyfriend - were raffled off to the crowd, which was just about the most camp and fabulous conclusion to an evening you could possibly ask for.

AS SEEN ON TV is undoubtedly a triumph of queer variety. As this was the inaugural outing, it was perhaps a bit rough around the edges, but this added to its charm and campness. Bring on the next episode!

All views are my own and I pride myself on being honest, fair and free from influence. Theatre is subjective and it is important to remember that all views expressed are just those of one person.

My ticket for this performance of As Seen On TVĀ was gifted by Grace Ann Decorum, who invited me to watch the show in exchange for my honest review. The fact that my ticket was gifted played no part in the content of my review or the star rating given.
