NEWS: 'SHREK THE MUSICAL' TOUR OPENS THIS WEEK @ TRP

Shrek The Musical opens its brand new tour this week, starring Antony Lawrence as Shrek and Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona.

The brand new shrektacular production of Shrek The Musical opens its much anticipated UK tour at Theatre Royal Plymouth on Friday of this week and runs until Saturday 29th July, before embarking on a national tour.

The cast includes Antony Lawrence as Shrek, Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, James Gillan as Lord Faquaad and Brandon Lee Sears as Donkey.

Join unlikely hero Shrek and his noble steed Donkey as they embark on a big, bright, musical adventure!

Based on the Oscar winning DreamWorks film, the Broadway and West End smash hit Shrek the Musical is a fun filled and hilarious musical comedy with a cast of vibrant characters and a ‘shrektackular’ score.

From the producers of Hairspray and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Shrek the Musical brings together a new creative team to re-image this award-winning hit show for a new audience, featuring all the classic characters from the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film and the iconic songs and story from David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical.

Antony Lawrence, who plays Shrek in the production, said: “The great thing about doing Shrek, because it’s a well-known story, is that we already know the characters. There's the double-edged sword of wanting to make the characters your own and the relationships your own, but at the same time there is an element of audience expectation. It's finding that balance of wanting to give them what they know, but at the same time we want to find our Shrek and our Fiona and our chemistry between ourselves. That's what makes doing a live version so fantastic, as you get the best of both worlds.”

Shrek the Musical opens at Theatre Royal Plymouth on Friday 21st July. Tickets are currently on sale at www.theatreroyal.com
